I really like reading this as you made great points. The newspapers have changed tremendously over the years and their ownership is partly to blame. An additional failure of news media is that they thrive on chaos; it attracts more readers, viewers or listeners. Minor things (earthquakes, fires, etc.) get turned into major catastrophes by the media. Major disasters require "investigation" to fix and assign blame. Chaos is king and much of it is created by the news media. Actual news is left by the wayside. This has been going on a long time, but the trend is accelerating. We no longer have a free and open press in this country other than, perhaps, local community newspapers. Right on the nose, Pete!
