I would like to take this holiday season to honor the men and women of the US Military who have given their lives this past year in the service of the country they loved and the freedoms they cherished. · Marine Cpl. Roberto Abad, 22, of Los Angeles, Calif.; assigned to Battalion Landing Team 1/4 (1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment), 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Aug. 6 by enemy action in Najaf province, Iraq.
· Army Sgt. Michael D. Acklin II, 25, of Louisville, Ky.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; killed Nov. 15 when two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters crashed in Mosul, Iraq.
· Army Spc. Genaro Acosta, 26, of Fair Oaks, Calif.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division (Mech), Fort Hood, Texas; killed while on patrol Nov. 11 when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle hit and detonated two improvised explosive devices in Taji, Iraq.
· Army Pfc. Steven Acosta, 19, of Calexico, Calif.; assigned to C Company, 3rd Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died Oct. 26 from a non-hostile gunshot wound in Baqubah, Iraq.
· Army Capt. James F. Adamouski, 29, of Springfield, Va.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.; killed in a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crash in central Iraq.
· Army Pvt. 2 Algernon Adams, 36, of Aiken, S.C.; assigned to the 122nd Engineer Battalion, Army National Guard, Edgefield, S.C.; died Oct. 28 of non-combat-related injuries at Forward Operating Base St. Mere, Iraq.
· Army Sgt. Brandon E. Adams, 22, of Hollidaysburg, Pa.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.; died Sept. 19 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., of injuries sustained Feb. 16 in Fallujah, Iraq, when a grenade exploded as he was clearing a house.
· Army Spc. Clarence Adams III, 28, of Richmond, Va.; assigned to the 91st Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; died Sept. 7 of injuries sustained Sept. 6 when his Humvee hit an improvised explosive device in Baghdad.
· Army Pfc. Michael S. Adams, 20, of Spartanburg, S.C.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 35th Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany; died on Aug. 21 in Baghdad, Iraq. Adams was participating in a small-arms-fire exercise on the range when a bullet ricocheted and ignited a fire in the building. He died as a result of injuries sustained during the fire.
· Army 1st Lt. Michael R. Adams, 24, of Seattle; assigned to 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colo.; killed March 16 when he was struck by the barrel of a .50 caliber weapon mounted on his tank in Asad, Iraq.
· Navy Lt. Thomas Mullen Adams, 27, of La Mesa, Calif.; assigned as an exchange officer with the British Royal Navy’s 849 Squadron; killed in a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter crash over the Persian Gulf.
· Army Spc. Jamaal R. Addison, 22, of Roswell, Ga.; assigned to the 507th Maintenance Company, Fort Bliss, Texas; killed in an ambush near Nasiriyah, Iraq.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Patrick R. Adle, 21, of Baltimore; assigned to the 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Force Service Support Group, Marine Corps Reserve, Folsom, Pa.; killed June 29 when a roadside bomb exploded next to his Humvee as he and four other Marines were traveling southeast of Baghdad.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Jeramy A. Ailes, 22, of Gilroy, Calif.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Nov. 15 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Army Capt. Tristan N. Aitken, 31, of State College, Pa.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. killed in action in Iraq.
· Army Spc. Segun Frederick Akintade, 34, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment, New York, N.Y.; killed Oct. 28 when his unit was attacked by enemy forces using an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire in Abd Allah, Iraq.
· Army Sgt. Maj. Phillip R. Albert, 41, of Terryville, Conn.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.; killed in a MH-53M helicopter crash on Nov. 23, 2003, in Afghanistan.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Nickalous N. Aldrich, 21, of Austin, Texas; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Aug. 27 in a non-hostile vehicle accident in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Army Spc. Ronald D. Allen Jr., 22, of Mitchell, Ind.; assigned to the 502nd Personnel Service Battalion, 43rd Area Support Group, Fort Carson, Colo.; killed Aug. 25 in a vehicle accident while conducting convoy operations near Balad.
· Army Sgt. Glenn R. Allison, 24, of Pittsfield, Mass.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, based in Fort Drum, N.Y.; died Dec. 18 during physical training in Baghdad.
· Army Spc. Thomas F. Allison, 22, of Tacoma Wash.; assigned to E Co, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, based at Fort Campbell, Ky.; killed in an MH-47E crash during a training exercise, on Feb. 22, 2002 in the Philippines.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Michael J. Allred, 22, of Hyde Park, Utah; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Sept. 6 due to enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Army Capt. Eric L. Allton, 34, of Houston; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Hovey, Korea; killed Sept. 26 when he was struck by a mortar round in Ramadi, Iraq.
· Marine Cpl. Nicanor Alvarez, 22, of San Bernardino, Calif.; assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Aug. 21 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Army Spc. Jose Amancio Perez III, 22, of San Diego, Texas; assigned to 6th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill, Okla.; killed May 28 when the convoy he was traveling in was ambushed in Taji, Iraq.
· Marine Cpl. Daniel R. Amaya, 22, of Odessa, Texas; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; killed April 11 by hostile gunfire in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Antoine D. Smith, 22, of Orlando, Fla.; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Nov. 15 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Army Pfc. John D. Amos II, 22, of Valparaiso, Ind.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; killed April 4 when an improvised explosive device hit his military vehicle in Kirkuk, Iraq.
· Army Cpl. William M. Amundson Jr., 21, of The Woodlands, Texas; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Ga.; killed Oct. 19 when the vehicle in which he was riding rolled over in Afghanistan.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Brian E. Anderson, 26, of Durham, N.C.; assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed in a non-hostile vehicle accident west of Nasiriyah, Iraq.
· Air Force Airman 1st Class Carl L. Anderson Jr., 21, of Georgetown, S.C.; assigned to the 3rd Logistics Readiness Squadron, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska; killed Aug. 29 by enemy action near Mosul, Iraq.
· Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael C. Anderson, 36, of Daytona, Fla.; assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14, Jacksonville, Fla.; killed May 2 by hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Army Spc. Marc A. Anderson, 30, of Brandon, Fla.; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Stewart, Ga.; killed during a rescue mission during Operation Anaconda on March 4, 2002, in Afghanistan.
· Marine Cpl. Nathan R. Anderson, 22, of Howard, Ohio; assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed Nov. 12 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Nicholas H. Anderson, 19, of Las Vegas; assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Nov. 12 in a vehicle incident while conducting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Rhode Island Army National Guard Spc. Michael Andrade, 28, of Bristol, Rhode Island; attached to the 115th Military Police Company, U.S. Army National Guard; died Sept. 24 of injuries he sustained when a 5-ton truck struck his Humvee in Balad, Iraq.
· Air Force Master Sgt. Evander E. Andrews, 36, of Solon, Maine; assigned to the 366th Civil Engineering Squad, Mountain Home AFB, Idaho; killed Oct. 10, 2001, in a heavy equipment accident in Qatar.
· Army Spc. Yoe M. Aneiros, 20, of Newark, N.J.; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley, Kan.; killed Sept. 7 when his patrol vehicle came under attack by rocket-propelled grenades in the Sadr City neighborhood of Baghdad.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Levi T Angell, 20, of Saint Louis, Minn.; assigned to Combat Service Support Group 11, 1st Force Service Support Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed April 8 by hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Army Sgt. Edward J. Anguiano, 24, of Brownsville, Texas; assigned to 3rd Combat Support Battalion, Fort Stewart, Ga.; killed in a convoy ambush in Iraq. His remains were recovered April 24. His status was changed from missing on April 28.
· Marine Cpl. Jesus Martin Antonio Medellin, 21, of Fort Worth, Texas; assigned to 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed in action in central Iraq.
· Air Force 1st Lt. Tamara Archuleta, 23, of Los Lunas, N.M.; assigned to the 41st Rescue Squadron, Moody Air Force Base, Ga.; killed in a HH-60G Pave Hawk crash on March 23, 2003, in Afghanistan.
· Marine Corps Cpl. Bradley T. Arms, 20, of Charlottesville, Va.; assigned to the Marine Corps Reserve’s 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division, headquartered in Baltimore; killed in action against the enemy, on Nov. 19 in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Marine Chief Warrant Officer Andrew Todd Arnold , 30, of Spring, Texas; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.; killed in a non-hostile accident when a rocket-propelled grenade launcher being fired for familiarization malfunctioned near Kut, Iraq. The incident is under investigation.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Alexander S. Arredondo, 20, of Randolph, Mass.; assigned to Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed Aug. 25 by enemy action in Najaf, Iraq.
· Army Spc. Richard Arriaga, 20, of Ganado, Texas; assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas; killed Sept. 18 during an ambush by small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Tikrit, Iraq. Two other soldiers from his unit also were killed.
· Marine Staff Sgt. Jimmy J. Arroyave, 30, of Woodland, Calif.; assigned to Combat Service Support Battalion 1, Combat Service Support Group 11, 1st Force Service Support Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died April 15 in a non-combat-related vehicle accident northeast of Ramadi, Iraq.
· Army Spc. Robert R. Arsiaga, 25, of San Antonio, Texas; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; killed April 4 when his unit was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire in Baghdad.
· Army Cpl. Evan Asa Ashcraft, 24, West Hills, Calif.; assigned to the Company A, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.; killed when his convoy came under enemy fire north of Hawd, Iraq, on July 24.
· Army Pfc. Shawn M. Atkins, 20, of Parker, Colo.; assigned to Headquarters, Headquarters Company, 4th Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Hanau, Germany; died June 14 in Baghdad of a non-combat injury.
· Marine Maj. Jay Thomas Aubin, 36, of Waterville, Maine; assigned to the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz.; killed in a CH-46E helicopter crash in Kuwait.
· Air Force Master Sgt. Steven E. Auchman, 37, of Waterloo, N.Y.; assigned to the 5th Air Support Operations Squadron, Fort Lewis, Wash.; died Nov. 9 of injuries sustained when multiple rocket-propelled grenades struck his location in Mosul, Iraq.
· Army Capt. Matthew J. August, 28, of Rhode Island; assigned to Company B, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (Mech), Fort Riley, Kan.; killed Jan. 27 in an improvised explosive device attack in Khalidiyah, Iraq.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Aaron C. Austin, 21, of Sunray, Texas; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, at Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed April 26 by hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq.
· Army Spc. Tyanna S. Avery-Felder, 22, of Bridgeport, Conn.; assigned to the 296th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash.; died April 7 in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries sustained April 4 when her convoy vehicle was hit with an improvised explosive device in Balad, Iraq.
· Marine Lance Cpl. Andrew Julian Aviles, 18, of Palm Beach, Fla.; assigned to 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Tampa, Fla.; killed in action in central Iraq.
· Marine Corps Pfc. Eric A. Ayon, 26, of Arleta, Calif.; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; killed April 9 by hostile fire in Anbar province, Iraq.
